Odds Of Shell Casing Landing Straight Up

This was in a Joseph Wambaugh novel. Guy obviously has committed suicide, but cops find a shell casing on the desk that is standing straight up. They run some tests, and figure it happens once every 60 times or so.



I wonder if anyone has any idea what the real odds are.
