Should Britain Get Involved Militarily in Syria?

ok - quite a few threads on Syria, but I was interested in other posters' opinions on this. The general public consensus seems to be we shouldn't, the general political mood seems likely that we will....

Lots of strands to discuss:

1) Is there sufficient evidence that this was carried out by the Assad regime (the joint intelligence chiefs clearly think so - though Iraq still casts a large shadow over our intelligence abilities in compiling dossiers....)

2) If 1 is correct, is there sufficient evidence that it was sanctioned by high ranking officials - or was it a "rogue" commander?

3) If there is compelling evidence that Assad was directly culpable then does that necessitate a military response? The Syrian civil war has already killed tens of thousands of civilians - so why this red line and not others?

4) Would military involvement make things better or worse? Are we looking for regime change? "Targeted strikes"? How would we achieve the former without an all out war, and would the latter actually have any impact? Would they lead to retaliatory strikes by Assad against Israel or Cyprus? And are the rebels fighting Assad any better than the regime they wish to overthrow?

5) Does Britain still have a role as a global policeman? Should we get involved in these things at all?

Those questions seem the most relevant - so, discuss :)
