if not a function, then what?

The definition of a function is: For every x, there is one and only one y.

That said, what is: For every x there is one and only one other x? An example of which is a reciprocal relationship.

Yes, a reciprocal relation can be put in the form of the function y=1/x. But I am very much not asking about that. I am instead asking about only mapping two x's with no references to any y's. For instance, the reciprocal of a positive real number x=1/2 is the positive real number x=2. No reference to y is being used.
