Norway to create registry over religious doctors

We had an election this year, where the red-green coalition was ousted by a right wing coalition backed by the political center. If that makes sense to anyone.. :p

Anyway, one of the demands by the Christian Democrats was to have GPs be able to both not assist a patient asking for an abortion, and be able to not refer such a patient to a hospital where such a procedure can be done.

(However, they have to refer such patients to another GP who can then refer the patient to a hospital. Heh. Patients can also contact the hospitals themselves to schedule the procedure.)

Since the public has a right to know whether there are medical issues a doctor will refuse to discuss with you, a registry will be made, showing which doctors hold such religious beliefs that they will not assist you with abortion.

Personally, I can't see this end very well for the doctors nor for the reputation of Christianity in this country. I don't think many people would choose a doctor that can't do all his duties because of religious beliefs.

ETA: An article about it, Google translated, for those interested.
