Can you delete Google+ without deleting YouTube or Gmail?

I don't want a Google+ account. However, recently google have seemingly consolidated all their "services" into one, which means that they've automatically given me one, using my YouTube profile. It used to be the case that you could delete your Google+ profile while retaining all the rest, whereas now it seems that there's just the option to delete your entire google profile, which will completely erase your YouTube and Gmail accounts as well.



Is there something I'm missing, or do I really now have to be part of this artificial inflation of member numbers?
