I wonder how much basic knowledge you need to seem intelligent?

Wasnt sure exactly how to title the thread. It could have been, say, `Are some of us as smart as a doctor?` Or, `Is ones ability to come up with ingenious solutions a measure of intelligence?` Etc.

Test yourself on this one.

Do you think you are smart?

Above average?

Are you a good problem solver?

Do you think a doctor couldnt do any better than you on random real life solutions on say mechanical related dilemmas?

.................................................. ..........

Okay, lets see you come up with a solution.

I tore out the plumbing behind the bathtub, where the pipes go into the mixer valve for hot and cold water.

One of the pipes, when being removed, broke inside the wall.

The pipe and fittings are called 1/2 inch size.

A male threaded 1/2 inch plastic threaded coupling snapped off up inside a female 1/2 inch threaded metal fitting by the mixer valve.

It is 3 1/2 inches out of reach. The vertical 1/2 inch pipe HAD gone thru a drilled out hole in a horizontal 2 x 4 board. The hole is about 1 1/4 inches across.

You cant access above the 2 x 4 board...only from below it.

In the open closet behind the tub/mixer valve, you can lay on your back, look up thru that hole with a headlamp on, and see the remainder of the broken plastic in the metal female threaded fitting. (No plastic remains outside the metal. It is flush with the bottom edge)

I can poke my finger thru the hole and barely touch it.

I believe there is a way or ways of getting an instrument up thru hole to try to extract, without tearing apart the real hard plaster wall above that horizontal 2 X4. (The hole itself is like 1 1/4 inches...and could be bored larger only if the solution requires that.)

You should have all the information you need.

Do you have enough basic knowledge of tools and/or materials where you can devise a solution?

Perhaps beating out even a doctor?

I asked a plumber and he gave me one idea, but i didnt do it... and i`ll later explain.

Please do not try to google. See if you can come up with ideas yourself.
