Question on the effect of an explosion on nitric acid

I read some years ago that during the revolution of 1848 desperate artillery men in Hungary loaded cannons with crockery loaded with nitric acid, aqua regia and other un-usual compounds but the 19th century source did not speak of its effectiveness. In particular wouldn't the black powder charge used in the cannons of that era have 'destroyed' the nitric acid? Or ....put another way what effect would that order of explosion have on concentrated acid?

Thanks
