Neo-confederates block Union Monunment on Civil War battlefield.

This might be more appropo to Social or US politics but here goes:

So in Florida there is a Civil War battlefield Olustee, not a major battlefield but not a minor one by any stretch of the imagination. On this field there are some 3 monuments to Confederate soldiers.

The only Union monument was over a mass grave, and was far, far away from the main battlefield site.

The Park wanted to add another monument to the site in tribute to the Union, just like every other Civil War battlefield site has.

This, a group called the 'Sons of the Confederacy', would not happen they swore.

The park overruled and made plans, and then the SotC pulled out their secret weapon: hypocritical politicians! They enlisted state Rep. Dennis Baxley, author of the 'Stand Your Ground' law, all around psycho conservative, and advocate for 'small, local government' to change the rules so that now any such decisions are in the hands of the state government.

The 'excuse' given by the slavery-loving apologists is that the ground was owned by the Daughters of the Confederacy before it was donated to the state and because of that it is sacred-something-something.

People ask me why I never reenacted Civil War, my answer is I refuse to reenact any war where one side doesn't realize the war is over.
