Your cross to bare.
Jesus is purported to have said
“Take up your cross and follow Me” (Matthew 16:24; Mark 8:34; Luke 9:23)?"
The phrase “a cross to bare” is a metaphor meaning a terrible burden.
But it's a phrase that is based on the crucifixion, before that event the phrase would have no meaning.
Why then would Jesus, who at that point in the gospels, had not talked about his death let alone carrying a cross through the streets of Jerusalem say this. The Idea of “ Take up your cross” would be meaningless to the disciples.
This in fact reads like a clear indication of something written a few generations later by someone who knew the end of the narrative.
I'm probably wrong in my interpretation so what do you people think?
