The 'Vile and Dangerous' Bunker Diary -- We Must Isolate Children from the World

I myself do not like to read about "bad things done by bad people". I think the last such book I read was A_Clockwork_OrangeWP about the time it was first published (;)).

However, I don't want to restrict the rights of others to read -- and learn -- from such.

Kevin Brooks's novel for young adults as unsuitable for children following resounding acclaim from prize judges.

If it teaches children the following without producing screaming nightmares and fear of the dark, I respectfully suggest it may not be a bad thing.

Quote:

At the Carnegie ceremony, Brooks had said that "children – and teens in particular – don't need to be cosseted with artificial hope that there will always be a happy ending. They want to be immersed in all aspects of life, not just the easy stuff. They're not babies, they don't need to be told not to worry, that everything will be all right in the end, because they're perfectly aware that in real life things aren't always all right in the end."

We can then hope they will grow up to face reality and not be taken in by the prophets of wishful feel-goodism.
