SSM Options

My partner (of 12 years) and I want a quick, civil ceremony. No family, no party, no fuss (except for my two kids, who insist on taking part). Our lawyer is recommending it for estate planning purposes, because although we live together as married, represent ourselves as a married couple, and have all the other paperwork in place, SSA and IRS don't consider us married. Getting married in another state will cover the IRS, and (if current court cases are any indication) eventually SSA will come around, too. The marriage won't be recognized by Texas until SCOTUS acts, but that's not really an issue for us.

I thought we could just fly to a state that supported SSM and get it done over a long weekend. However, when researching it, I found that various states have witness requirements (gotta bring your own), or waiting periods, or various other impediments (like the clerk's office being closed on holidays and weekends).

If we were hetero, we could fly to Vegas on any day of the week, and be home the same night. What's the closest thing for gays? Ideally, something like a clerk's office next to a JP's office, walk-in service.

For silly sentimental reasons, today was supposed to be the day. However, that didn't work out. Our next opportunities (without pulling the kids from school) are the week of Thanksgiving, and the Christmas hols. I can pull the kids from school for a single Friday or Monday if needed, and go anytime, but the logistics have me stumped.
