The claimed reason could his immigration reform or really anything, doesn't really matter. I don't there is a single thing they could do that would better serve the interests of the country, or the world for that matter. It would certainly be their best accomplishment to date.
If impeaching the President for using his executive discretion to kick criminals out of the country instead of otherwise law abiding people wouldn't destroy their chances at getting the White House, I dunno what would. Given that he is acting completely within his legal power (not to mention that it is good policy) it would be clear that the sole motivation for doing it is their hatred for him. I can't imagine that this would sit well with anybody that doesn't already hate him.
Unfortunately, this is probably just a pipe dream just a pipe dream. Even they are not stupid/crazy enough to think it would work in their favor. Though I have no doubt that they would do it if they thought they could without damaging themselves too much politically.
