Christians upset over NdGTyson recognizing Newton's bday

Ok, I saw the tweet on Christmas from Neil deGrasse Tyson

"On this day long ago, a child was born who, by age 30, would transform the world. Happy Birthday Isaac Newton b. Dec 25, 1642"

Was surprised to see today that there is all this "controversy" about how Tyson is raising "ire" with his anti-christian tweets.

Once again, it's the perspective of privilege. This is like in the Honda thread, where someone complained about a person who thanked the makers of Honda instead of God, here the problem is that he set them up and then had the audacity to not praise Jesus. For pete's sake, it's not even like Newton was some pagan or anything!

The comments are a riot. Claiming that Tyson "mocks" christianity with his tweet, for example. I'm trying to figure out how it is "disrespectful" at all. What a big attack on religion - not mentioned Jesus in a tweet about someone born on Dec 25

There are some great responses. I like the one guy who thinks he makes a point by saying that Newton wasn't actually born on Dec 25 in the Gregorian calendar. Because, we know that Jesus was of course born right on Dec 25.

And I like the stories that describe the tweet as saying that people read it thinking it would be about Jesus but then it was about Isaac Newton. It was a total of 125 characters, so maybe 90 characters leading them to thinking it was Jesus.
