My generation is screwing your generation

Well not just my generation, my parent's generation is also screwing your generation.

Amongst our various accomplishments in screwing over the younger generation are running up a massive federal debt that allowed all of us to live pretty well thanks to the involuntary largesse of our grandchildren. But of course we didn't stop there. We invented medicare, this might be seen as a kind of wash because theoretically your generation will be eligible for it some day, except we invented medicare and my generation didn't have to pay for medicare for the previous generation, a pretty good deal for us.

Some might see a little equity here, in that Obama care levels the playing field a bit in that some of you out there that aren't old might get a little subsidized healthcare as well, except my generation is the generation that is electing all the Republicans that are trying to repeal Obama care. Our hypocrisy is riding pretty high on this. Socialized medicine is a good thing when we're the ones getting it, but socialized medicine when somebody else gets it will be the ruination of the country. And of course one old geezer on medicare sucks up about 100 times what one of you young folks does, so even if the government subsidizes your health care you aren't getting that much.

My favorite thing that my generation invented is reverse mortgages. This is awesome we finally have a way to burn completely through our assets before you youngins can get any of them.

And then we invented the tax free loophole on the sale of our real estate when we're old. And we can do it on two homes. This is once again a completely awesome idea. Why the heck should my generation pay any taxes when your generation is willing to pay them for us?

And what is the big enabler for my generation that allows us to so thoroughly screw the younger generation. We vote. And this is going to surprise a lot of people but a major driver for what people vote for is their own self interest. And when the younger generation isn't voting and the older generation is guess who's going to get the goodies?
