Graphene lightbulbs to go on sale.

The first commercial product to use Graphene will go on sale later this year and it's an LED lightbulb. Graphene has already been used in a number of applications including sports equipment, but it's use in lightbulbs marks the arrival of Graphene in the everyday consumer market. The developers say Graphene lightbulbs will be cheaper, use 10% less energy and last longer than current LED lightbulbs.

For me, the most significant element of the story is that Graphene is now commercially viable. Wonderful though it is, it has been prohibitively expensive. Now, it can be provide cheaply enough to make a consumer product using it practical, we can expect more uses in the very near future. Exciting times ahead!
