"If you could experience everything...sitting in a chair, why bother with reality?"

This interview was bookmarked on my browser. It's an intriguing thought, long pondered by philosophy and explored in films such as the Matrix and Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise.

To quote Arthur C Clarke:
Quote:

I mean, if you could experience everything, be everywhere, know everything, sitting in a chair - "wired," to coin a phrase - why bother with reality? It's an interesting philosophical question; I don't know the answer.

What do you think? Do you agree with Hobbes that life is brutish and short and we should embrace technology to escape the harshness of reality? Or to prosper do we as a species move forward by incorporating both reality and technology into our lives?
