Letter sent to a conspiracy theorist

Some points concerning your paper:

A Hypothesis : The Opportunity and Curiosity Mars Rovers are Situated on Earth

“I have not carried out detailed calculations on the power
system of this vehicle, but I find it difficult to believe that lithium ion batteries, being charged by small solar panels would keep all the devices on this rover powered for over 10 years.

Comparing the MER's performance with a mobility scooter leaves much
to be desired as these vehicles are not designed to operate in the same environment as the MER's. making comparisons subjective, and open to critique.

Below are links providing information on the batteries which power
the Mars Rovers.

“This is 33 degrees lower than the
minimum operating temperature of the rover.”

The Rovers batteries where not designed to operate directly in extremes of Martian temperatures. You may find the batteries of the Mars rovers are of an advanced type, designed to different criteria than those in your laptop. “Warm boxes”, protect the batteries from the extremes of Martian temperatures.

“Where are the signed off test procedures which would show evidence
that detailed tests may have been carried out?”

I would try NASA, I'm sure they will be happy to supply you with the information you need, if it's available in the public domain.

In the case of the MER's batteries, these where made by the Yardney Company
who delivered units to NASA. NASA then integrated the batteries into
the rovers, (systems integration), and then tested the complete rovers in environments similar to those of Mars.

“I would expect the testing to be carried out by a completely different part of NASA, or even another company.

Again, I would ask NASA, your own experiences of testing and verification procedures may not be same as those of NASA.

I intend to address all of the points in your hypothesis.

Thus far, I see no evidence presented here that Mars rovers are not
fulfilling their scientific missions on the surface of the Red Planet.

Richplanets hypothesis,

Can anyone provide information on NASA test procedures, Mars rover specific.
