No charges have ever been brought against him. The U.S. has claimed that he was leading a group of Taliban fighters, he has claimed he was doing charity work.
I'm uncomfortable with detention without trial. There is always a risk that intelligence is flawed to some degree and a lack of a trial means that we have no idea whether Shaker Aamer is a threat or not or whether there has been some horrible miscarriage of justice.
If he was never a Taliban leader then I can only imagine the damage this has done to his life and I fear that this treatment may have turned him into what it was claimed he is - a real danger.
