Is a black laptop screen fixable?

I just got back from getting a new battery for my laptop computer. I had taken it with me to make sure it fit and the computer came on with it installed. Everything worked fine at the store. Then I came home, put the old battery back in, and tried to start using it. And now the backlight for the screen won't come on. The pixels are still doing what they're supposed to do, but I can only confirm that by holding it certain angles to the ambient light. (I'm typing this on my TV as a cloned second monitor right now.)

Will this laptop's monitor just never work again?
