GOA takes government to task for obsolete IT technology

Apparently many agencies, some critical, are running antiquated software and storage devices and though some of these are quite reliable they are having to spend huge amounts of money and time just to keep things running.
Often, programs have long sinced become "unsupported" by original marketers and as a result technicians are kept busy applying fixes.

I recall it was just a few years ago that the FBI was shown to have a thoroughly-outdated system, and promised upgrades were not materializing.
The ATF is prohibited by law from having a computerized database of firearms sales...Forced to rely on manual searching of paper files.
