Lying to children about heaven

Is it ever OK? If a little kid wants to know where Mommy has gone, and the only honest response some can offer is either "I don't know" or "You'll never see Mommy again?"

I'm thinking maybe at this point they need hope. Nothing so hokey as "Mommy is with Jesus" (unless the adult believes this, in which case it's not-quite-lying).

Anything like, people believe different things, like "she becomes part of everything," "we can still talk to Mommy" or whatever. I haven't had to deal with this situation and am wondering if some people here have.
