This is a sort of "just curoius" post:
In the U.S., we have the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, which has a whole bunch of retired military aircraft, thousands of them. Many are strategic bombers with the wings removed and set alongside the aircraft in a way that makes it clear that the aircraft will never fly again. This was done in accordance with U.S./Soviet arms control agreements - the removal of the wings had to be easily visible to Soviet satellites.
In addition, there are a whole bunch of other scrapped military aircraft there, things that were scrapped due to obsolescence or old age or funding cuts, not related to arms control agreements. I think there are a few other U.S. military aircraft graveyards as well as some graveyards of civilian jetliners like the ones around Victorville and Lancaster in California.
So my question is: Are there Soviet/Russian counterparts? Areas stocked full of old Soviet aircraft strategic bombers or otherwise? I would guess they would be in the deserts of former Soviet nations in central Asia. Does anybody here know?
