Fur-fetishists arrested; charged with child rape

While investigating what was expected to be a relatively boring case of a Pennsylvania man arranging a sex meetup with an officer posing as a young boy on the internet, police discovered the man was part of a circle of friends who had already been raping a real child repeatedly over an 8-year period, sometimes while wearing fursuits and dressing the boy up as a cartoon character. Five individuals have been arrested; police are still investigating the possibility of other victims, or participants.

My youthful theory on the existence of ghoststs

Looking at a diagram of the human brain and nervous system I thought that there was a possibility that the glow that would occur between the brain and nerves would somehow be preserved when a person died. This would account for the appearance of ghosts as glowing entities.

Sadly I was wrong and ghosts do not exist.

Populists winning in Europ; End of the EU?

So, the USA has officially started it's first year of the thousand-year Trumpenreich.

But what about us here in the EU?

This year will see the Netherlands and France voting, and populists are doing well in the polls.

Personally, I think that Wilders and Le Pen will do worse than projected, and will then be sidelined by a coalition (any coalition, no matter how uncomfortable).

But if, if they win, they have both promised Frexit and Nexit referenda. And France leaving the EU would probably kill the Euro.

And that will probably mean that I will be poor and jobless by 2018.

Is there any chance that Wilders, and more importantly, Le Pen could come to lead their respective nations? Or is this a political impossibility?

Can TOBS Defeat Radical Islamic Terrorists?

TOBS is an acronym for my Theory of Body Signals, which I've posted on several other forums. Simply put, God communicates with us via "Body Signals" which manifest as itches, muscular twitches, pulses, pains and cramps on various parts of the body.

For instance, let's say I think an evil thought. As the thought runs through my mind, I get a muscular twitch on my left leg. Then I think a good thought and I get an itch on my right thigh.

With God's help over decades, I've managed to crack the code. Here are some of my findings:

Right side of the body symbolizes Good
Left side of the body symbolizes Evil

Legs = Thoughts
Arms = Actions

Right ear = God's Mercy
Left ear = God's Justice

Cheeks = "God didn't say that"
Nose = Choose

So let's say I'm a radical Muslim intent on blowing up a crowded marketplace. As I strap on a bomb underneath my clothing, I think of the great reward in paradise that Allah has waiting for me. Immediately my left cheek muscles start having a violent spasm, indicating that Allah didn't say that. I disregard my cheek spasm at first, but it keeps going until finally I scratch it.

Now if I knew the TOBS code, I would easily figure out that Allah doesn't justify terrorism or jihads. So I'm spreading the TOBS code in hopes that my Muslim friends around the world will be persuaded to truly submit to Allah and put a stop to jihads and terrorism. Once everyone knows TOBS and understands what it means, maybe we can finally have world peace, as people everywhere understand God's will.

FBI Worried About Infiltration of Local Law Enforcement by White Supremacists

FBI so worried about white supremacist infiltration of police it hesitates to share info with them.

White supremacists and other domestic extremists*maintain an active presence in U.S. police departments and other law enforcement agencies. A striking reference to*that*conclusion, notable for*its confidence*and the policy prescriptions that accompany*it, appears in*a*classified FBI Counterterrorism Policy Guide from April 2015, obtained by The Intercept. The guide,*which details the process by which the FBI enters individuals on a terrorism watchlist, the Known or Suspected Terrorist File, notes that “domestic terrorism investigations focused on militia extremists, white supremacist extremists, and sovereign citizen extremists often have identified active links to law enforcement officers,” and explains in some detail how bureau policies have been crafted to take this infiltration into account.

Although these right-wing extremists have posed a growing threat for years, federal investigators have been reluctant to publicly address that threat or to point out the movement’s longstanding strategy of infiltrating the law enforcement community.

No centralized recruitment process or set of national standards exists for the 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the United States, many of which have deep historical connections to racist ideologies. As a result, state and local police as well as sheriff’s departments present ample opportunities for white supremacists and other right-wing extremists looking to expand their power base.

In a heavily redacted version of an October 2006 FBI internal intelligence assessment, the agency raised the alarm over white supremacist groups’ “historical” interest in “infiltrating law enforcement communities or recruiting law enforcement personnel.” The effort, the memo noted, “can lead to investigative breaches and can jeopardize the safety of law enforcement sources or personnel.” The memo also states that law enforcement had recently become aware of the term “ghost skins,” used among white supremacists to describe “those who avoid overt displays of their beliefs to blend into society and covertly advance white supremacist causes.” In at least one case, the FBI learned of a skinhead group encouraging ghost skins to seek employment with law enforcement agencies in order to warn crews of any investigations.

That report appeared after a series of scandals involving local police and sheriff’s departments. In Los Angeles, for example, a U.S. District Court judge found in 1991 that members of a local sheriff’s department had formed a neo-Nazi gang and habitually terrorized black and Latino residents. In Chicago, Jon Burge, a police detective and rumored KKK member, was fired, and eventually prosecuted in 2008, over charges relating to the torture of at least 120 black men during his decadeslong career. Burge notoriously referred to an electric shock device he used during interrogations as the “nigger box.” In Cleveland, officials found that a number of police officers had scrawled “racist or Nazi graffiti” throughout their department’s locker rooms. In Texas, two police officers were fired when it was discovered they were Klansmen. One of them said he had tried to boost the organization’s membership by giving an application to a fellow officer he thought shared his “white, Christian, heterosexual values.”
I bet Jeff Sessions can exacerbate fix this.

Australia/USA Refugee Deal

Can someone help me understand this.

A deal was struck between Obama an Turnbull (Australian Prime Minister) about some refugees being held on Nauru and Manus islands. The deal is now under threat because of Trump's incumbency.

Whether the deal is honored or not is another issue. What I can't understand is why the deal was made at all.

The ruling right wing coalition government in Australia, have long trumpeted their stance that illegal immigrants will not find asylum in Australia, so they put them in not so savory places such as Nauru and Manus.

The theory behind this is the boats will be stopped, if those wishing to come to Australia this way, will not get what they want. All the time while espousing this idea, (and wiping a tear from their eye), claiming the motivation behind it is to stop boat people from drowning at sea.

Now if these people are going to finish up in the USA were is the deterrent?

Split brain does not lead to split consciousness

Here is a new study which claims this and I would like to know what you think:

Split brain does not lead to split consciousness
January 25, 2017
Universiteit van Amsterdam (UVA)
A new research study contradicts the established view that so-called split-brain patients have a split consciousness. Instead, the researchers behind the study have found strong evidence showing that despite being characterized by little to no communication between the right and left brain hemispheres, split brain does not cause two independent conscious perceivers in one brain.
Taken from:

The study is already used by believers that it destroys the the motion that split-brain patients have split consciousness:

However the study itself has also some problems why I am sceptical and this is what I found without reading the full study so far:

1. The study uses only TWO patients which is little:

For their study, Pinto and his fellow researchers conducted a series of tests on two patients who had undergone a full callosotomy.
Taken from:

2. The study was not replicated yet:

In the coming period, Pinto plans to conduct research on more split-brain patients to see whether his findings can be replicated.
Taken from:

I have not read so far the whole study but from this short story I am very careful to claim that this little study disproves the split-brain consciousness.
This is however what I found and I would like to know what you think.

Quack 'Clinical Trials' in Africa

This is something I've been following on and off for a while ever since Mark Crislip covered it in two episodes of QuackCast (Episodes 63 & 86, linked below), what is happening is that peddlers of Quack medicine are going to Africa and performing 'Clinical Trials' of whatever woo they happen to be pushing, frequently they have more money than the legitimate charitable groups trying to improve healthcare in Africa, and they peddle a message that finds receptive ears.

QuackCast - Episode 63: Without Borders

Myles Power has been looking into a 'clinical trial' in Uganda where it appears that promoters of MMS conned the Ugandan Red Cross into providing support for this kind of fake medical research, which is purely designed to get marketing footage for their product. The UK should stay in the EU....warts (EU) and all. The EU is not perfect - far from it - but that does not mean it is good.

For its part, it about time for the EU to demand that the UK switch to the Euro and become fully integrated. Like I said, the EU is not perfect, but that does not mean it is good.

Otherwise, the UK will end up being a lick-spittle toady of the US of A. Rumours of EO allowing discrimination against LGBT to come this week

An executive order from President Donald Trump opening up discrimination against the LGBTQ community on the basis of religious belief is expected sometime this week, possibly as soon as today.

Several sources spoke with LGBTQ Nation on the condition of anonymity who have told us that the order will allow for discrimination in a number of areas, including employment, social services, business, and adoption.

From what we’ve heard, the executive order could be far-reaching, and could include: making taxpayer funds available for discrimination against LGBTQ people in social services; allow federally funded adoption agencies to discriminate against LGBTQ parents; eliminate non-discrimination protections in order to make it possible to fire federal employers and contractors based on their sexual orientation or gender identity; and allow federal employees to refuse to serve people based on the belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman, and that gender is an immutable characteristic set at birth, which would impact a broad range of federal benefits.

The order is expected to come in the packaging of so-called “religious freedom,” which argues that someone’s religious beliefs should be enough to prevent them from having to provide goods and services to members of the LGBTQ community if doing so would conflict with said beliefs.

Obama Weighs In

Well, that didn't take long. Obama's actually had vacations in Hawaii that lasted longer than his respectful silence on his successor's policies.

11 days. That's it. George W. Bush has kept his mouth shut for over 8 years now, and Obama lasted 11 days. And when he opens is yap, he even dishonestly characterizes his successor's actions:

"The President fundamentally disagrees with the notion of discriminating against individuals because of their faith or religion," said Kevin Lewis, spokesman for the former president, in a statement.
The executive order on immigration does not discriminate against individuals because of their faith or religion. It discriminates based on their country of origin. That's a pretty big difference.

I predicted that the former narcissist-in-chief wouldn't be able to keep silent. Doesn't matter though. It won't take long for people to tune him out. They were already doing it for the last year anyway.

Mexico's Outrage . . .

I have observed that many people who oppose Trump's policies regarding the wall and the import tax (a matter which hits home for me) keep referring to the idea that Trump's actions will result in pissing off Mexico and the Mexican Nationals who come do all their shopping here. This will result in them not coming and spending their money here anymore and to initiate a trade war with us. These are usually people I know who are on the left side of the political spectrum.

What I don't understand is why these left-leaning people want to appease Mexico? Forget all the rhetoric about security and "America First." The truth is that Mexico is one of the most extreme examples of income inequality in the Americas. Those Mexican Nationals that come to buy the things they can't find in Mexico can only do so by exploiting the majority of Mexicans who live in poverty. The whole reason we have a problem with illegal immigration in the first place is that the people of Mexico are oppressed and exploited. Shouldn't we want the rich Mexicans to stay home and spread their wealth in their own country, even if it means we lose out on some of their spending?

I say if the Mexicans get angry and don't want to come here to spend as much money any more, that's a good thing for Mexico and by extension, the US. They will stay home and develop the infrastructure and economy to create/import the goods they want at home which will create jobs for the oppressed poor people of Mexico. In turn, those people won't need to flee across the border to us. Forcing Mexico to take care of Mexico could be the best thing to happen for all of us.

Trump broke immigration law.

Trump's Executive Order is based on this law:

It is from 1952 and states:

(f) Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate. Whenever the Attorney General finds that a commercial airline has failed to comply with regulations of the Attorney General relating to requirements of airlines for the detection of fraudulent documents used by passengers traveling to the United States (including the training of personnel in such detection), the Attorney General may suspend the entry of some or all aliens transported to the United States by such airline.

However, the 1965 Immigration Reform Act stated:

(a) Per country level
(1) Nondiscrimination
(A) Except as specifically provided in paragraph (2) and in sections 1101(a)(27), 1151(b)(2)(A)(i), and 1153 of this title, no person shall receive any preference or priority or be discriminated against in the issuance of an immigrant visa because of the person’s race, sex, nationality, place of birth, or place of residence.

So according to current Federal law, Trump's Executive Order is ILLEGAL

Usain Bolt finally stripped of 1st medal, 7 years after first scripted date

Usain Bolt finally stripped of first medal, 8 yrs after Beijing Games

Jan 25, 2017
Usain Bolt finally stripped of his first medal, 7 years after the first scripted date
ONE world title out of TWENTY (11 at World Championships and 9 at Olympic Games) is all it takes to officially strip from Bolt what some falsely consider his ultimate milestone, the triple triple at the Olympics.
First headlines, which in a psy-op (in this case setting the stage to accuse Bolt of doping) play a key role:
- either suggest that it's already the script's climax, the execution of Usain Bolt, omiting that at this point it's still about Nesta Carter from Jamaica's relay: "SportsFlash Videos - Usain Bolt stripped of Olympic Gold";
- or simply omit that it starts with Beijing (word not mentioned in headlines) 2008 (word also omitted in article): "Usain Bolt loses gold medal after relay teammate found guilty of doping".

Reminder of Last Prophet's words from Jul 2016, before the Rio Olympics, referencing articles from 2015 and 2009:
Usain Bolt won't be stripped only from 3 Olympic medals as predicted 2009 but from at least 6. Or will it be the triple triple, 9?
Athletics, the base sport, despite bombed to oblivion for decades now, still the #1 sport at the Olympics.
Bolt set countless milestones in athletics, and this one above all:
Fastest man ever and, as predicted by Last Prophet in an article published hours later, Aug 2009, FOREVER.
One of the consequences of illuminati forced to postpone the BIG BANG again and again (and it will also not take place before the 2016 Games):
Bolt can again write History:
- setting yet another milestone, the triple (100 m, 200 m, 4x100 m relay) triple at the Olympics (Beijing, London, Rio);
- breaking again his own records for world titles, all uninterrupted since 2008 except for the 100 m in 2011, when he was disqualified by a false start.
In any case Bolt will be stripped of more world titles than Armstrong's 7 Tour titles, alias ALL of them, as precised by Last Prophet in 2005, when Lance retired.

Bolt casted in the figurative genocide in sports
Russian athletes, first ones to be banned from the Olympics just because of their nationality.
Bolt blackmailed to participate as "supporter of Russia's ban" alias the ongoing figurative genocide (just for being, in this case russian) in sports, before global genocide during the BIG BANG.
The grotesque was previously pushed to the utter limits: start of mass executions of kenyan and ethiopian athletes with accusations of doping.
All this possible because of what was explained and is as simple as this:
"Putin" & Russia gov = Kenyatta & Kenya gov = Ethiopia gov = Jamaica gov = traitorous illuminazi agents.

Reminder from 2015:
After the illuminati were again forced to postpone the BIG BANG leading to have the athletes compete for the world titles again at Beijing:
Illuminazi will terminate Usain Bolt after his Beijing races at the stadium where he became the fastest man ever AND as predicted 2009 FOREVER.
The previous statement is literally what Last Prophet predicted in 2008, albeit at the end of the day Beijing stands for World Championships 2015 not for Olympics 2008.
This as what started with Ben Johnson at Seoul 1988, portrayed at that time as an exception, is served as "one out of 3 medalists on dope" now, at the end of the show.

Jan 25, 2017
SportsFlash Videos - Usain Bolt stripped of Olympic Gold
Usain Bolt loses gold medal after relay teammate found guilty of doping

All explained years ago. From 2009, timestamp verifiable in Web Archive:

Ongoing execution of Usain Bolt, in two acts: falsely accused of doping in Beijing and stripped shortly after.
It's also a parallel script to actor "Obama arrested, stripped", will "confess the most sophisticated conspiracy in the History of Politics" on TV to Oprah Winfrey (at the end of the day it was Lance Armstrong who started the series of confessions to Oprah).

Doping conspiracy echoed by NOBODY ever since it was exposed in the web, 1999:
"Doping improves performance in running, jumping and cycling" is a lie sold by the illuminati through false accusations to the champions.

Marion Jones was the first champion forced to confess what she didn't do.
The climax for the Gitmo type of "confessions": Lance Armstrong, who otherwise would have been jailed and also stripped not only of titles but of everything.

Goals include:
- Marketing the chemical industry, the agenda of increased use of drugs, or in other words fulfilling the illuminati religion's "Black is White";
- Discourage youth to get into athletics, destroying the principle of "healthy mind in healthy body", required to totally brainwash youth;
- stage justice, again with the illuminati religion's "Black is White": the biggest deceivers in human history (illuminati, black) combat fraud (justice, white);
- Divert attention from the fact that humans reached the physical limits, part of various agendas, starting with "theory of evolution" (hoax created by illuminati).

Time for secession?

Let's admit it, the West coast and the Northern East Coast states will simply never agree.

We want social democracy and they want Conservative libertarianism.

We want inclusion/diversity/tolerance, while they want white homogenuity and bigotry.

We get in their way, they get in our way.

Why continue this?

Maybe rather than continuing the endless fight, we should just divorce.

California, Oregon, Washington, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachussets, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, secede from the Union and form a new nation or join Canada.

If this happens, the new Liberal/Moderate nation can create the Social Democratic state we want, and the rest of the country can create the Libertarian Conservative Christian White nation they want.

No more extreme obstructionism. We all get to have the countries we always dreamed of.

I'm starting this thread just to link/quote valuable press articles regarding Trump's era and commenting why we think they're valuable or precise.

The first one is:

NYT's Trump’s Impulses Now Carry the Force of the Presidency - by Peter Baker

No matter it's vox populi, I'm impressed with his accurate depiction:
  • «He sits in the White House at night, watching television or reading social media, and through Twitter issues instant judgments on what he sees. He channels fringe ideas and gives them as much weight as carefully researched reports.»
  • «He thrives on conflict and chaos
  • «... he now serves as commander in chief and his 140-character pronouncements carry the power of an Olympian lightning bolt.»
And the way he describes how all this interferes with the normal development of the presidential office.

It's Over

America was once the land where oppressed and enslaved people could look to as a model of freedom.

It's over.

The USA is no longer a model of freedom. You can dismantle the Statue of Liberty any time now. (False advertising and all)

Worth pointing out: the 9/11 terrorists were mostly Saudi Arabian, with one UAE, one Egyptian, and one Lebanese citizen. None of these countries are on the list. This is obviously not about terrorism. It's about which countries Trump Inc has not received bribes from yet.

Sorry, Americans: you're clearly assets of Trump Inc now.

Tell me about the Titanic....

The Titanic sank after it cruised at an unsafe speed through iceberg-cluttered waters on a nearly moonless night, and apparently the lookout didn't have binoculars because he didn't have the key to the locker where they were stored. Question: Did the ship use some kind of lighting? Even with the technology of the time, a tightly focused spotlight shining ahead from the bow might have given them time to act. If they didn't, why not?

Bill Nye says humans will never colonize Mars but.....

This is far fetched but could humans not one day build space stations and orbit Mars and work on Mars during the day and live in the space station at night?

Bill Nyes biggest objection to a human colony on Mars is the weak gravity that would harm the health of humans trying to live there and an infant born on Mars would be a disaster. Even if the child survived its heart would not be able to work properly if the child ever came to earth.

Humans could live on the station, get their education on the station , farm on Mars and overall stay in the station when the work is over.

You would have to make sure the station had the same gravity as the earth.

Is common courtesy now a "microaggression"?

For those who don't know what a microaggression is:

a statement, action, or incident regarded as an instance of indirect, subtle, or unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group such as a racial or ethnic minority.
I just got back from the Dollar Store where I experienced something unusual. This store has 2 single-width doors, one for entry and one for exit. However, for the past couple of weeks, the exit door has been broken, so everyone enters or exits through this one door.

As I was leaving, I noticed a woman approaching the door, so I did what I always do....I opened the door and held it open, allowing her to enter first. I do this for everyone, whether you're a big burly construction worker or a frail little old lady. The normal response is a "thank you" or just a nod of the head....Heck, even no response is acceptable IMO.

However, this woman said "I can get my own door! THANK YOU!" as she walked through the door...then mumbled something under her breath as she walked off. I was taken aback...and I looked at the cashier with a puzzled look, and she just rolled her eyes and shook her head as to say "Don't worry about it, she's just a jerk".

Did I do something wrong? Is holding a door open for someone a "microaggression" that belittles the person who has the door opened for them? Or is it just common courtesy to show respect to your fellow human? I'm confused.

Cancer and soccer and artificial turf

Here is an interesting interaction of everyday common sense evaluation and genuine scientific analysis. What would appear to be a clear case of cause and effect is found to be not so under closer scrutiny.

Soccer players' cancers ignite debate over turf safety

It was about seven years ago, and their children were in preschool together. Griffin, assistant head coach of women's soccer at the University of Washington, mentioned to Bryant how "it was weird" that some of her current and former players, especially goalkeepers, had been diagnosed with cancer.

Griffin turned to Bryant and said she wondered whether cancer was somehow associated with those "little black dots" on the artificial turf fields where they play, which were then replacing natural grass fields. Those dots are recycled tire crumbs. "I didn't think much of it until my son," Bryant said. Years after that conversation, just before he turned 14, Jack Bryant was diagnosed with cancer. He's a soccer goalie...

...However, the study results from the Washington State Department of Health investigation did not suggest that soccer players are at an increased risk for cancer due to the tire crumbs.

The results showed that the cancer rate among soccer players in the investigation, based on Griffin's list, was actually less than expected compared with the cancer rate among all Washington residents of similar ages.

For the players' cancer cases to be a cluster, there would have to be a greater-than-expected number of cases of the same type of cancer, according to criteria listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention...

Harvard researchers believe they've created metallic Hydrogen - which would be a very big deal.

However, some are skeptical

"Complete garbage," is how Eugene Gregoryanz from Edinburgh University described the research. "Like everybody else who works with hydrogen at high pressures, I am appalled by what is being published in Science."

Are we entering a brave new era of room temperature superconductors and other good stuff? Or is Eugene right?

Claim that Trump did not indicate policies he will pursue II

Some two 2.5 months ago i asked, whether the claim 'that Trump did not sufficiently indicate his political intentions to have any idea, what he will do as president' can be filed under "complete nonsense", because he made clear what to expect.

Now after first week in office, can someone offer opinion whether Trump acts in any way one could not expect from his pro-election promises and statements for rechecking whether the claim was reasonable?

Checking what he has done in his first week against what he promised:

it seems he tries several things he promised; e.g.:
"Five actions to restore security
and the constitutional rule of law:

, cancel every unconstitutional executive action,
memorandum and order issued by President Obama.

, begin the process of selecting a replacement
for Justice Scalia from one of the 20 judges on my list,
who will uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution.

, cancel all federal funding to sanctuary cities.

, begin removing the more than two million
criminal illegal immigrants from the country and cancel
visas to foreign countries that won’t take them back.

, suspend immigration from terror-prone regions
where vetting cannot safely occur. All vetting of people
coming into our country will be considered “extrem""

For Number 1, 4 and 5 first steps are already obvious. Number 2 is in the informal first stage (informal vetting of potential candidates)

Also from page 2 of this list of various "promises":
"Fully-funds the construction of a wall on our southern
border with the full understanding that the country of
Mexico will be reimbursing the United States for the full cost
of such wall;"

if i read the news correctly, the first decisions regarding the building of the wall are already underway and Mexico seems to be aware about Trump wanting Mexico to pay for the wall and already offered some suggestion what they think about that, which shows that at least Mexico expects Trump trying to keep that promise.

And i have not noticed a single issue Trump did, that was completely unexpected. His selection of secretaries and other staff decisions even include some people no one could accuse of being part of the Washington "swamp", e.g. that former BreitbartNews operative. That he still selected also a host of republican politicians for jobs was expectable, as he needs the republican majority to get anything done.

So it seems still correct to file claims that one did not know what to expect from Trump as "complete nonsense".

or was it more the issue that nobody could believe he realy meant in earnest his promises of for example building a wall or stopping immigration from certain muslim majority countries?

"We have a fire in the cockpit!" -- Apollo I + 50 years

50 Years Later, NASA Creates Tribute To 3 Astronauts Who Died In Space Race

Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 1 fire that killed three astronauts during a routine test on the launchpad. The accident shocked NASA as the agency was rushing to meet President Kennedy's 1961 challenge to have men on the moon by the end of the decade.

The test was a dress rehearsal for the Apollo 1 crew — Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee. The ultimate goal was to check out the command module, NASA's first three-man spacecraft that would take astronauts to the moon.

The crew was rehearsing the real launch, which was about a month away. They were suited up and in the capsule running through checklists and testing equipment.

But something sparked in the oxygen-rich environment. Within seconds, the capsule filled with flames, smoke and toxic gases.
Starting today and for the first time, KSC will place the hatch from Apollo I on public display.

UK - Tax the super-rich !

This could alternatively be in Non-US Politics or Economics, Business and Finance - Mods feel free to move as required.

There is a suspicion that the super rich (both individuals and companies) manage to get away with a lot when it comes to taxation. This is vehemently denied by the tax authorities but this report on the BBC website caught my eye.

The taxman's failure to get tough with the super-rich risks undermining confidence in the whole system, MPs warned in a report on Friday.

HM Revenue and Customs must avoid the impression it has "one rule for the rich and another for everyone else," the Public Accounts Committee said.

In a scathing report, PAC chairwoman Meg Hillier said HMRC's claims about its success "just don't stack up".
Naturally, HMRC deny that this is the case, but in an era or rising income and wealth inequality where a greater and greater proportion of the nation's income and wealth is flowing into the pockets of a small group of people, I found this statistic illuminating:

Since HMRC set up a specialist unit dealing with so-called high net worth individuals in 2009, the amount of income tax they paid had fallen by £1bn, the report said. This was despite income tax receipts from the public as a whole rising by £23bn over the same period.
Now this could represent a change in the way that the super-rich are making money, less in terms of income, more in more tax-efficient ways:

But while HMRC said this had resulted in the collection of an additional £2bn in tax. it was unable to explain why the income tax they paid fell by 20% - from £4.5bn in 2009-10 to £3.5bn in 2014-15 - when the overall income tax take rose by 9% £23bn.
I wouldn't be shocked to find a similar story with respect to corporate taxation as well.

Trump to give Press credentials to Infowars????

Alex Jones, owner and main personality for Infowars, says that Trump has or will offer his group press credentials for the White House and their daily press briefings.

Infowars is notorious for saying 9-11 was not done by Al Qaeda or Muslim terrorists, but by Israel or agents in our government.

They've also suggested the Sandy Hook Massacre never happened, and martial law was going to be imposed by Obama.

These "people", cannot get press credentials for the White House.

It would be like Der Sturmer getting Press crendentials in Germany and allowed into the Bundestag. This would be an unacceptable and unforgiveable move by Trump.

Alarming new trend with live streaming

I was wondering what people are thinking about this scary new trend of live streaming suicides. First it was Kathryn Davis, the 12 year that live streamed on facebook. Then it was a young girl from Miami just the other day. And today it appears that a rapper has done it. Could the live stream option of facebook cause a rise in suicides? Possibly giving the idea to young kids who weren't contemplating it before or hadn't reached that low?

Anyone else run into an issue with switching books from audible app to their new phone? I recently replaced my phone with a much newer model. I have quite a few audio books as I have a two hour commute for work each day. I downloaded the books onto the new phone and get nothing but failed playback. Audible support is no help, won't get back to me. I already tried the obvious, deleted and redownloaded the books. Deleted books, uninstall/reinstall the app, and download books. All lead to the same result. Anyone else ever had this issue or could recommend an audio book app and store that are equal to audible?

Going cheaper with my next smartphone. A mistake?

Or more accurately. How big is the difference actually between a cheap, a mid-range, and an expensive smartphone?

I bought my eleven-year-old daughter a Motorola G3 €130 six months ago.

It doesn't have a physical home button, it needed an SD card and I find the interface not that great. But apart from that, how much worse is this thing compared to my fancy iPhone 6?

I watch Youtube and Netflix, do my mail, follow some courses, and browse Twitter.
No plans for VR headsets or fancy games.

I'm thinking of getting a mid-range Samsung for my next phone (still have to look through their extensive and confusing range).

Anyone experienced here? Will I go mad from slow reaction times and ruing my eyes with a bad resolution screen?

Happy New South Wales Day.

On this day in 1778, the first fleet arrived from England and landed on the east coast of "Terra Australis" at the site that would later be known as Sydney. This marked the beginning of the occupation of this land by the British.

This day is commemorated as "Australia Day" and is celebrated with fireworks every year. However, in more recent years, it has become a day marked by protests. Many are dubbing this "Invasion Day" to recognize the displacement of the Aboriginal population and the atrocities inflicted on them by the British settlers.

Some are calling for Australia Day to be celebrated on a different date. The problem is when? Strictly speaking, Australia didn't come into being until January 1, 1901. So the logical date should be January 1. The problem is that if we celebrated Australia Day on January 1 then there would be one less public holiday every year.

In spite of the controversies that flare up on Australia Day, we will likely celebrate the founding of the colony of New South Wales on January 26 for the foreseeable future.

Dutch respond to Trump's 'gag rule' with international safe abortion fund

Up to 20 countries have indicated support for the Netherlands’ plan to set up an international safe abortion fund to plug a $600m funding gap caused by Donald Trump’s reinstatement of the “global gag rule”, the Dutch international development minister, Lilianne Ploumen, said on Wednesday.

Ploumen took soundings from a number of her colleagues around the world on Tuesday evening after the Netherlands said it would act to mitigate the impact on hundreds of charities around the world.

The “global gag rule”, also known as the Mexico City policy, was reimposed by Trump on Monday, and bans US federal funding for NGOs in foreign countries that provide abortion services or abortion advocacy.

‘We’re in talks with 15 to 20 countries and we’ve also spoken to foundations,” Ploumen told the Guardian. “As well as contacting a number of European countries that we work with on these issues, we’re also in touch with countries in South America and Africa, as well as the foundations. It’s important to have the broadest possible support for the fund.”

Ploumen did not identify which countries had been approached or how much money the Dutch government might commit to the scheme. She said the aim would be to continue support for existing programmes being run by organisations such as the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), the International Planned Parenting Federation and Marie Stopes International.

“These are successful and effective programmes: direct support, distributing condoms, making sure women are accompanied at the birth, and making sure abortion is safe if they have no other choice,” she said.
This is important work and it needs to continue.

Free audiobooks?

I run quite a lot and I've exhausted all the music in the whole world and am finding it hard to find new stuff. I'm also getting quite bored of Doctor Who audio dramas. So I'm looking for suggestions of other audio works that I can listen to, and which won't cost me a fortune.

Since I've not read as many classic books as I ought to I've just started in on the Sherlock Holmes canon (somewhat ironically starting off with one of the ones I have read), which I got from, which has led me to

Does anyone else know of any good sources of free audio books? I'm sure it'll mostly be restricted to classic books, as they're more likely to be in the public domain than more modern works (although there may be some modern works, I'm sure). I'm more looking for suggestions of archives which have a selection of free works (and they don't have to be restricted to books - plays, etc. can be good, too), but if there are any suggestions of individual works I can get from somewhere that would be appreciated, too.

The only thing I'm not really interested in is stuff like the first chapter of something free as an enticement to buy the rest of the book. A first chapter wouldn't last the length of a run (I did all three parts of "A Scandal In Bohemia" and most of the first part of the next story today), and if I were to spend money on a work I'd be much more likely to get the ebook version as I'm starting to get into a position where my "upcoming books to read" pile is getting a little small.

Oh, and as I want to practice my German, simple German-language stuff is a good idea. I've listened to the German language version of Harry Potter and enjoyed that although, again, at the moment I'd rather find things which are free than things I need to pay for.

A Better Health Care Plan

So this was a little odd.

Recently, I've been seeing this ad on tv promoting the new up-and-coming health care plan. It doesn't give details, but gives the url to to learn more.

So I went there.

It's main thing on that page is a big youtube of, you guessed it, the same commercial.

And underneath, the following optimistic text:

Our Congress is fighting for us: lowering costs, providing more control and more choices to pick a plan that meets our needs, not a plan that Washington mandates.
Besides that, nothing. Except a big friendly button you can press that declares I'm In, if you want to give your name and email address.

And at the bottom: Paid for by American Action Network, Inc. (A 501(c)(4) ‘action tank’)

A very odd commercial all in all. Looks like the Action Network's current 'plan' is just to get your info for fundraising.

Over the years religious ideologies have been the underlying motive for killing thousands of people across the world.

Slaughtering by Islamic Extremists seems to increase. (See attached information). I have become more than used to news reports on war battles, suicide attacks, spree shootings, stabbings, hijackings, kidnappings and even beheading.

I believe that right now somewhere, individuals with extreme religious beliefs are planning to wipe out others, even if it means sacrificing themselves and indiscriminately killing members of their own religious.

Religion is meant to bring love and peace, so I believe. How could anyone justify killing fellow human beings in the name of his god? I don’t know the answer. Would someone, preferably a person involved in or close to this practice, please inform me?

I just want to understand.
