Why not an American Triumvirate

I remember from my civics lessons in middle school the story of early ancient Roman Emperors holding power in threes.

All three are sworn in at once after the grace period, so to speak, during which the President-elect awaits inauguration. The rival and third party elect their candidates. They will be necessarily lesser powers, but have much more clout and leverage at that position than being under a hand-picked VP who is already on the President's side.

As a result, the headlines cannot be dominated by a single character, as people must consider the moves of the other co-presidents/triumvirs and so lesser known proposals coming from opposing sides will have a larger platform.
